Kenyan gospel singer Ruth Matete has lost her Nigerian husband pastor John Apewajoye.

According to reports pastor John passed away on Saturday after being involved in a gas accident at their home. He died at a local hospital while receiving treatment.

A voice note doing rounds on social media allegedly from one of Matete's friends states , "Ruth and her husband John changed their gas cylinder and when they got to the house, he went to the kitchen to fix it. he noticed it was excess and he took the cylinder to the balcony and tried releasing some so that it would be okay to use. After coming back to the kitchen he lit the gas without knowing that there was excess gas on the clothes outside. His clothes caught fire immediately and it started spreading. The clothes on the balcony caught fire too. He ran to the sitting room screaming 'babe help me".

"He has been doing so well until yesterday (Saturday) night when he breathed his last. it's so sad and Ruth is in her first trimester. That's the hardest part," adds the voice note.

Matete took to facebook to confirm the news.

The U.S based Kenyan gospel rapper, Mohwaz has just dropped a new aggressive single titled ‘Shujaa’.

Watch 'Shujaa' on YouTube here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtFdcVair54

Shujaa’ is a Swahili word translating to ‘hero’  and in this context it is used to represent that artist who will not give up on Christ despite the hardships encountered in the journey.

On the inspiration behind this single, Mohwaz shares “Shujaa is all about the diary of a struggling gospel artist who finds solace in the fact that God is on his side despite the ever-present setbacks”

Rapper Mohwaz has gone in hard on this jam, a fact he will have you bumping your head to the bars that he spits from the start to the beginning to the end of the song without missing a verse.

He is working on his debut album expected to be released sometime mid-2020 and according to sources working closely on this project, it is expected to be a game-changer in the gospel hip-hop arena

About Mohwaz

Mohwaz is a U.S based Kenyan gospel rapper who is highly revered for his diction, lyrical agilities, and astounding rap flows.

Born in Kitale Kenya, Mohwaz started writing and performing gospel rap songs at the age of 10 and recorded his first single “Toka Kwenye Giza” back in 2005 at Frameless Records.

Three years later, he made a special appearance on a song titled “Ni Muthingi” in Allan Aaron’s debut album. In the year 2009, he relocated to Boston Massachusetts and 2 years later released the hit single “Ruka Na Hii”. Subsequently, he released “Sema Nasi Bwana” which was awarded the Best Christian Hip-Hop song of the year in 2011 at International Music Awards.

In 2012, the hit single “Lazima ni Eneze” was released and earned multiple award nominations including Best Diaspora Gospel song of the year at Sauti Awards and Best Hip-Hop Act of the year at Talanta Awards U.S.A.

In recent years, Mohwaz reunited with his old-time friend and associate Kamlesh on a bunch of songs including “Frequency Yake”, “Most High” and “Wanilinda”. He also featured on the “Mizani Za Uzani” album in a song titled “Disciples Wa Christ”.

The internationally acclaimed feature documentary, The Elephant Queen, filmed in Tsavo East National Park and the Greater Amboseli Tsavo ecosystem will screened on Citizen TV this Easter Sunday, 12 April 2020 at 5pm.

This is a unique broadcast and will not be repeated.

The Elephant Queen tells a stirring and intimate story about the most majestic and sentient animals in Africa.

This family-friendly film stars the ultimate leading lady, Athena, an elephant matriarch who will do everything in her power to protect her family when they are forced to leave their waterhole.

The film is directed by Mark Deeble and Victoria Stone with Etienne Oliff as Assistant Director and produced by Victoria Stone and Lucinda Englehart.

The film is narrated by Academy Award nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor (The Boy who Harnessed the Wind and The Lion King).

Rarely do we get such an intimate glimpse into the animal kingdom and an insight into an elephant family.

Yet this is a story not only about elephants but of the animals that live at their toenail height...a tardy goose, a tenacious dung beetle and a determined tortoise to name a few. This story is not just entertaining, it is one of survival, family and coming home.

“The Elephant Queen is the result of eight years work, but really it is the culmination of a life’s work of filming in the wild. We had worked together for 25 years in East Africa making wildlife films before we felt confident enough to bring something different to a film about elephants” said Deeble and Stone.

“Living in the wild, elephants had always been tangential to our lives, but never characters in our films. Over the years we’d stored memories of scenes, experiences and interactions we’d seen, particularly of smaller animals with elephants - but never thought of telling a story about them until we got caught up in the devastating drought of 2009.

Seeing how the elephants reacted, as families, in the face of such adversity made us realise just how like humans they are – the decision-making, leadership, empathy, grieving and sentience that they showed was astonishing. The intrigue and connectivity we knew, along with the emotional scenes we witnessed was a compelling combination. It made us determined to tell their story”. (Deeble and Stone).

In partnership with the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), a series of 28 learn-to-read books based on the film's wildlife characters and themes will be going into schools across the country.

This literacy initiative is part of the wider Outreach programme designed around The Elephant Queen and supported by BESTSELLER® Foundation.

As with the reading series, where authentic natural history is woven into engaging stories, a series of children’s plays, short videos and other outreach activities will inspire a new generation of Kenyan conservation leaders. The outreach materials will be hosted on www.elephant.co.ke and available after Easter.

The Elephant Queen has inspired audiences and made friends for Kenya wherever she has travelled - from the top international film festivals including Toronto and Sundance to cinema screens across the US.

The film, which celebrates Kenya’s extraordinary wildlife and biodiversity, won the Cinema for Peace Award and the UN World Wildlife Day Biodiversity Award and was awarded Best Cinematography at DOC NYC.

The movie has been translated into Kiswahili and Maa for public screenings.

As the country intensifies the war on the coronavirus, Mombasa-based manufacturer Pwani Oil has partnered with Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) to produce 60,000 half litre bottles of hand sanitizer to be distributed free to the public.

This is equivalent to 30,000 litres of hand sanitizer, recommended as an effective precaution against the coronavirus Covid 19 respiratory disease.

This comes as the government strengthens its collaboration with the private sector to scale up the production of essential materials for use by the general public and health workers in managing the spread of Covid 19 in the country.

Pwani Oil Commercial Director Rajul Malde said the partnership with KPC is part of the company’s ongoing initiatives to support of the country’s effort to contain Covid 19.

“We continue to scale up our support to ongoing efforts by the government and other partners to prevent the spread of coronavirus, using our capabilities and facilities, and as part of our contribution as a business to the wellbeing of all Kenyans,” said Mr. Malde.

He added that Pwani Oil, which manufactures cooking oil, soap and detergents, was focusing its interventions at the grassroots level where they would have the most impact, especially in identified Covid 19 hotspots in various parts of the county.

Kenya Pipeline Company Chairman John Ngumi lauded the gesture by Pwani Oil saying it is aligned with the government’s goal of engaging private sector and other stakeholders in fighting Covid 19.

“This is a good example of a public-private partnership to deliver targeted interventions against the coronavirus pandemic. We need everyone on board in ensuring we have adequate resources to prevent the further spread of this dangerous disease among our people,” said Mr. Ngumi.

On March 18, the government ordered the release of 400,000 litres of ethanol in its stores, seized through legal processes, for use in the manufacture of alcohol-based hand sanitizers to meet the growing demand in the wake of the coronavirus Covid 19 outbreak.

KPC was mandated by the government to oversee the distribution of the ethanol to various firms that have volunteered to make hand sanitizers for public use.

Mr. Malde says Pwani Oil has the facilities to produce hand sanitizers and the company was ready to assist in any way it can working other stakeholders to provide essential sanitary items.

Pwani Oil has in addition to reducing prices on some of its soap brands, donated hand washing kits and soap for use at strategic public points.

The firm has partnered with the Kenya Ferry Services to provide soap on ferries and also distributed hand washing equipment to be used in police stations, health facilities and other public spaces across the country.

The company has also partnered with the Kenya Progressive Nurses Association to provide 122 hand washing kits and 70 cartons of soap to be distributed to medical personnel in hospitals across eleven counties.

Pwani Oil has also been engaging in a public sensitization campaign on the Covid 19 disease prevention and importance of washing hands.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the use of hand sanitizers with an alcohol (ethanol) content of at least 60 percent as one way of curbing the spread of the coronavirus through regular washing of hands.
