Mombasa has always  been hailed as the county  that produces alot of talents especially when it comes to music, film and art, however not much has been done to tap and utilise these talents an issue that has always seen many talents go to waste.

Well, in a bid to tap, promote and nurture the talents, Machele foundation is set to partner with one of the best music producers from the county Shirko of Shirko media  to make this a reality.

The foundation through its patron Mohammed Machele will soon be launching talent search programmes which will run in all wards in the county.

"Its very sad that we have alot of talents in our county but have always been wasted, its high time now we utilise them" said Machele.

"We have seen world over guys using their talents to make their lives better and acquire wealth, just across the border we have the likes of Diamond Platnumz who has now become a role model to many young people, why cant we do it here" he added.

The initiative will see the best in terms of music from each ward secure a recording deal with Shirko media.

"We discussed a partnership between our foundation and them (Shriko media)  that will seek to aid our youth in efforts of capitalizing on their talent. " reads a statement from the foundation.

Shirko returned to Mombasa after a close to 15 years stay in Tanzania where he helped produce some of the best hits for most Tanzania artists,

He has set up an ultramodern studio in Mombasa's Liwatoni area.

In an earlier interview with Ommydallah, Shirko said he has received numerous calls from artists especially in Mombasa asking him to return and help them in their music and also act as link between them and other international artists.

The Port Workers Welfare and Performance Group [PWWPG] wants former Kenya Ports Authority [KPA] Managing Director Brown Ondego to stop misleading the government over the privatization of the port of Mombasa.

They said Ondego’s calls on the government to privatize port operations were misleading.

The welfare led by their Secretary General Ali Khamis reacted just days after Odengo called for the privatisation of the port arguing it will improve service delivery and make it efficient, Ondego was speaking at the inaugral East Africa Maritime Awards held last weekend at a Mombasa hotel.

In a statement jointly signed by the welfare chairman Waweru Kamau and the organizing Secretary Peter Ouma availed to media houses Juma said Ondego, despite being awarded a lifetime achievement award during the ceremony, was not in a position to call on the government to privatize port operations.

He accused Ondego of seeking cheap publicity yet he was invited like a stakeholder and former KPA MD.

“Ondego’s remarks are testimony that he is a bitter man after being relieved of his duties at the authority,” he pointed out.

Khamis has also petitioned the government to confirm the current KPA acting MD Daniel Manduku.

He notes that Manduku has proved beyond any reasonable doubt that he is fit and suitable for the position to spearhead port operations.

“Manduku is one of the best technocrats remaining in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration who deserves such an opportunity when it arises,” he argued.

He further urged the regional politicians and port stakeholders to rally behind Manduku to ensure he is confirmed.

“Let President Kenyatta in his wisdom consider confirming Manduku on contract for a three-year tenure,” he said.
