Nassir Unveils Smart ID Cards To Deal With Rogue County Revenue Officers Featured

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has unveiled smart identity cards for revenue officers to curb corruption.

The card which will have all the details of the revenue officer and a QR code is Geo referenced to show and identity genuine officers operating under the county government.

According to Nassir, the move seeks to bring sanity in the revenue collection sector and cushion residents from rogue officers and impersonators.

"Mombasa is one county that is not doing proper enforcement, that's why we have decided to go this way. We want to bring sanity in the sector." said Nasir.

He added "In the level of compliance 40 percent of SMSEs are compliant to tax payment in-terms of revenue collection, we are doing well in projects."

Nasir said the county is keen to collect more taxes to help in service delivery and development projects

Nasir who spoke in Mombasa during a media briefing at his office warned that his administration will deal with rogue officers who collude to fleece business people 

"At least 30 shops who had closed business and had not paid their dues in the market section, we will waive the fees. What we have opted to do that businesses that had not been paid their licenses during covid to be waived." said Nasir.

Nassir further announced that the county government has waived all pending dues and penalties owed to the County by small scale traders accrued during the  Covid pandemic period

“We are going to request that the systems be opened, for people to pay current dues, so that we can relieve them, because some of them are still paying levies of during the covid-19 period,” said Nassir.
