Fresh off the success of their collaboration with King Kaka and Femi One “Deni”, the RnB crooners are already the next best thing.

The band comprised of Ethan, Brandon and Vince has been consistently releasing singles since last year, with Sleki being their fifth single. Their music is beautifully written, catchy and reflects the lives of the typical Kenyan youth.

Sleki is produced by Bern Music and mastered by Jadi’s own Ethan. The dope visuals which tell the story of young love is directed by CJ Pixels.

The UK has announced direct financial support of £1 million(KES 144 million) UK aid to help cushion 10,000vulnerable people and families living in informal settlements in Mombasa from the negative economic impacts of COVID-19.

During a visit to Mombasa, where she held talks with County Governor Hassan Joho, the British High Commissioner to Kenya, Jane Marriott, announced the support for some of the families worst affected by the pandemic.

Channelled through mobile cash transfers directly to individuals and families, it will help with their most pressing needs–such as paying rent, purchasing food or other basic items.

The High Commissioner visited the Tudor Muoroto informal settlement to see first-hand the potential beneficiaries of the cash transfer programme, along with meetings with coastal governors, and young entrepreneurs, to hear about the UK and Kenya’s thriving partnership on tech and innovation.

This announcement is part of the UK’s support to 50,000 people living in informal settlements in in the two major cities of Kenya (Mombasa and Nairobi).

“The coronavirus pandemic is global,  we are all in this together. Across the world, there is a significant impact on people’s jobs and livelihoods. The UK and Kenya are working together to support companies, jobs and families who need help during this difficult time.” Said Marriot

Adding “ This support will also stimulate the wider local economy as most of the basic items are supplied by small business owners living within their communities.”

On his part Joho noted “This means alot to the people of Mombasa and the country at large. The devastation occasioned on the world economy by the COVID-19 pandemic, can amongst many other things be mitigated through initiatives meant to resuscitate the economies at the grassroots.”

The High Commissioner’s visit to Mombasa highlighted UK support to the coastal region, including tackling COVID-19, countering terrorism and violent extremism, helping modernise the port of Mombasa, as well as supporting resilient urban development in coastal Kenya.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented disruption in the political, economic, social, technological, environmental, security and legal environment.

Think Tanks, scholars, opinion leaders, multidisciplinary professionals, policy makers and futures experts met virtually on the 26^th of August 2020 to discuss: “The Future of Africa in the Post COVID-19 World”.

The 10^th IREN East Africa Thought Leaders Forum’s objectives included; to discuss the post COVID-19 world in relation to Africa and to discuss how Africa should navigate the Post COVID-19 era.

In his opening remarks, Mr. James Shikwati - Founder Director of IREN highlighted the effects of COVID-19 on Africa’s cultural norms, agricultural productivity, commerce, industry, individual liberties, technology spheres and what leaders and organizations should do amidst the rampant information overload, disinformation and fake news.

Mr Shikwati further prescribed a shared world approach in combatting the scourge.

“I am honored to be part of the 10th IREN East Africa Thought Leaders Forum to discuss about our roles in shaping our future.” Said Veni Swai; Programme Officer at The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom based in Dar es Salaam.

She added that the Foundation is proud to have worked with IREN Kenya on various projects that seek to promote liberal ideas and ensure that people get platforms to contribute their ideas in order to shape their future.

The thought leaders called upon Africans to seek endogenous solutions, strengthen local institutions and merge them regionally in order to position themselves strategically in the globe. Africans should place less emphasis on its painful past and focus energy on NOW and the FUTURE

Other recommendations included, among others; Africa should strengthen Institutions, be proactive and stop surrendering leadership to multilateral institutions, create currency regions to make Africa’s currencies competitive in the world, introduce investment policies that will ensure Africa benefits, strengthen regional economic communities, adopt the rule of self-preservation, invest in research and development, challenge our academia, policy makers and technocrats to use their knowledge to solve our challenges and invest in technology, education, entrepreneurship and Innovation to spur economic growth in the continent.
