Jomvu MP Twalib Fulfills DP Kindiki’s Promise of Kshs 3 Million to Families of Boat Tragedy Victims
Jomvu Member of Parliament Badi Twalib has delivered on a pledge made by Deputy President Rigathi Kindiki to support families who lost their loved ones in a recent boat tragedy.
The tragic incident, which occurred during a boat racing tournament claimed three lives.
Speaking during the handover ceremony of shs 3 million to the families , MP Twalib said the assistance was part of the government’s commitment to stand with affected families during difficult times.
He noted that the support was meant to ease the families’ burden as they continue to recover from the loss of their relatives.
He expressed gratitude to the Deputy President for honoring his word, saying the gesture reflected the government’s empathy and responsiveness to citizens’ needs.
“The Deputy President made a promise to these families, and today we have ensured that the pledge is fulfilled. This is a sign that our leaders care about the welfare of the people,” Twalib said.
The Mp expressed solidarity with the affected families, assuring them of continued support until their loved ones are laid to rest.
“We have walked together in this journey, and we shall still be together until we give our loved ones a befitting send-off,” said Badi.
On his part, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir said the County Government is in the process of initiating special diving training for members of the Beach Management Units (BMUs) and survivors from the accident.
He said the training will enhance emergency response capacity and improve safety measures for those involved in water transport and rescue operations along the coastline.
“We are now getting into the December holiday and there will be a lot of activities on our beaches. The youth will get special diving training from the Kenya Navy,” said Governor Nassir.
Mombasa County Unveils Ambitious Plan to Tackle Garbage Menace
The Mombasa County Government has unveiled a new initiative aimed at addressing the persistent garbage problem across the county.
County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Lands, Mohamed Hussein Amadoh, said the issue of waste management in Mombasa has long been a challenge, emphasizing the need for discipline in how residents handle garbage.
"The issue of garbage has been a thorn in our county for years, but under the leadership of Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, we are determined to find a lasting solution. A clean city is not just about beauty — it’s about attracting investors and creating opportunities." Said Amadoh.
Adding "To our youth, as you take part in this effort, don’t focus only on the money see it as a service to your county and a chance to build a better Mombasa.
On her part, Kibibi Abdallah, the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Environment and Water, said the county has rolled out a three-month pilot program involving 500 youth operating 41 tuktuks to collect garbage from various estates.
"This initiative will open up job opportunities for our youth, who will be directly involved in collecting garbage from homes to designated drop-off points. We have also set aside a special fumigation day every month, and all these activities will be spearheaded by our young people, giving them both income and pride in serving their community.” she said
She noted that the initiative, implemented through Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), will see the youth pick up waste from residential areas and deliver it to transfer centers for proper disposal.
Speaking during the registration of the CBOs in Mombasa, Ms. Abdallah said the program will ultimately benefit about 3,000 youth while also improving cleanliness and creating sustainable employment opportunities.
Turkish Airlines Resumes Direct Flights to Mombasa After Hiatus
Turkish Airlines has officially resumed its direct flights to Mombasa, marking a major boost to the coastal city’s tourism and business sectors.
The relaunch follows a temporary suspension that had disrupted air connectivity between Kenya’s second-largest city and Istanbul, one of the world’s busiest international hubs.
The airline, which had stopped its operations in 2020 due to global travel disruptions, will now offer three weekly non-stop flights between Istanbul and Mombasa.
The move is expected to provide greater convenience for travelers and enhance connectivity between Kenya and Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
The inaugural flight touched down at Moi International Airport Mombasa to a warm welcome from local tourism stakeholders, government officials, and airport authorities.
The airline’s return has been hailed as a key step in revitalizing Mombasa’s position as an international gateway for tourism and trade.
Speaking during the relaunch, the Turkish Ambassador to Kenya Subutay Yüksel, emphasized that the two countries are keen on strengthening their bilateral relations, noting that Mombasa and Istanbul share many similarities, including their historical and cultural richness.
“Mombasa and Istanbul are both coastal cities with deep histories and diverse cultures. This flight connection will not only enhance trade and tourism but also strengthen the friendship between our people,” said the Ambassador.
Mombasa County Executive Committee Member for Tourism welcomed the move, saying it was a timely boost for the region’s tourism industry and a strong indicator of renewed investor confidence.
He further called for the adoption of an open skies policy to attract more international airlines to Mombasa.
“The resumption of Turkish Airlines flights is a clear sign that Mombasa remains a preferred destination. We must now embrace the open skies policy to make our city more accessible and competitive globally,” he said.
On his part Kenya Airports Authority Chairman Caleb Kositay lauded the move terming it as a big boost to local tourism industry.
"This is going to boost our tourism sector and business" said Kositany.
Historic Moment as Shimoni Port Welcomes Its First-Ever Cruise Ship
Shimoni Port in Kwale County marked a historic milestone on Sunday after receiving its first-ever cruise ship, signaling a major boost for tourism and the blue economy in Kenya’s coastal region.
The luxury vessel SH Diana operated by Swan Hellenic Expeditions carrying 120 tourists and 129 crew members docked at the newly developed port early Sundat morning, drawing excitement among local residents and officials.
The arrival of the cruise ship underscores Shimoni’s growing importance as a new maritime and tourism hub, complementing the long-established MMombasa and Lamu ports.
The port’s strategic location near marine parks, Wasini Island, and the Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Reserve makes it an attractive destination for cruise tourism.
Speaking during the reception ceremony, Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani lauded the milestone, noting that it reflects ongoing government efforts to diversify port operations and promote sustainable tourism.
She added that the event would open doors for more cruise liners to include Shimoni on their itineraries.
"This is a cler sign that Kwale is positioning itself as a top Coastal tourist destination in the country" said Achani.
Adding " I extend my appreciation to President William Ruti for hastening the completion of the port that also seeks to enhance the marine and Blue Economy sectors in the country.
The ship is also expected to visit the Mombasa and Lamu ports.

Religious leaders from various faiths led prayers for the Odinga family and for the nation, calling for continued peace and cohesion during this period of mourning.
They noted that the country had lost a visionary leader whose dream of a just and prosperous Kenya transcended political boundaries.

Rotary District 9212 & Partners Plan New Round Of Polio Immunization In Kenya
As the world commemorates World Polio Day on 24th October under the global theme, “One Day. One Focus: Ending Polio delivering on our promise of a polio-free world!”, Rotary District 9212 (covering Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea,and South Sudan) is collaborating with Kenya’s Ministry of Health to carry out polio immunization in five counties.
"In partnership with the Ministry of Health, WHO, UNICEF, and the Gates Foundation, Rotary District 9212 will host the Polio Campaign Launch in Migori County,’’ Rotary District 9212 End Polio Committee Chair Yvonne Kimutai said.
"This event will serve as the official kickoff for the five-county immunization campaign covering Migori, Kisumu, Homabay, Narok, and Siaya Counties. It will bring together Rotary, the government and partner organizations for a united public health and awareness effort,’ Kimutai said.
"We are conducting the big catch-up vaccination to target zero doses and under vaccinated children with polio vaccine in order to catch up restore and strengthen routine immunization,’’ according to Kenya’s Ministry of Health.
In the Rotary year beginning July 2023, Rotarians in Rotary District 9212 contributed $36,885 toward eradication of polio. The contributions increased to $72,857 in the last Rotary year, which ended on June 30, 2025.
Rotarians in Kenya will hold End Polio walks in different locations across the country on Saturday 25th October 2025.
The Nairobi End Polio Walk will be held at the University of Nairobi graduation square from 9:00 am to 12:00 p.m. Other walks will be held on the same day in Mombasa and Naivasha.
A launch for the Polio Campaign will be held in Migori County on the 15th Of November 2025.
The 17 Rotary Clubs at the Kenyan coast will have a walk in Taveta town on October 24th 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. On 25th October, the clubs will have a walk in Mwatate town from 8:00 am and a free medical camp and polio immunization at Bura Health Centre from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
To raise funds for polio eradication, the Rotary Club of Kitengela already hosted an African culture fashion show on October 18, 2025.
"These walks aim to raise awareness, increase giving, and strengthen Rotary’s visibility at community level,’’ Kimutai said.
Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of five.
The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.
