Jomvu Member of Parliament Badi Twalib has put on the spot what he calls cartels controlling fresh water business at the expense of Jomvu sub county residents.

Twalib said water shortage has become a perennial problem in Jomvu, and now he reads mischief with people operating water Boozers who he accuses of allegedly sabotaging efforts to restore the water situation.

“There is a cartel deliberately interfering with water supply to do business at the expense of my people, we are going to ensure that it is not tolerated, and we are not afraid of anyone, they are on the spot, we will allow them to do business but not at the expense of the people of Jomvu,”Twalib Said.

Fresh Water business in Jumvu Sub County has been thriving with water Boozer suppliers making a killing, thus subjecting residents to unbearable economic pain.

"People concerned with water supply should know that my people have a right to water, “said Twalib.

Speaking after meeting officials from the Mombasa water and sewarage company at his office , Twalib said he is making drastic efforts to restore the water shortage situation.

“This problem has persisted until our area Mo called for a meeting to resolve the matter because people are suffering because of water shortage, “said Jackton Madialo Mikindani ward representative..

Madialo regretted that residents have to contend with drinking unsafe water, while they have a right to clean water.

“I want to ask our residents to stay calm as we look for ways to improve water distribution, we want to ensure people get pure drinking water and that is why we have talks with Mombasa water,” said Twalib.

The meeting was also attended by Miritini MCA Kibwana Swaleh and his Jomvu Kuu counterpart Joshua Mose.

Key former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho allies have left the county government since the current governor Abdulswamad Nassit took office

They include Joho’s Chief of Staff Joab Tumbo who was also acting as the County Secretary, Environment Chief Officer Ilhan Abass, and Finance Chief Officer Asha Abdi.

Ilhan who was also the acting chief officer for Public Service and Devolution was the first to resign one month ago, she was followed by Joab who tendered his resignation two weeks ago, and Asha who sent his resignation letter on Thursday last week in what is believed to be a protest against the now Nassir led government.

Asha was also the acting chief officer for Trade, Tourism, and Investment.

According to sources, the chief officers were expected to remain around until December as per the agreement with the former regime.

Sources at the county revealed that the three Joho’s allies who played a strategic role in his government felt unwelcome by Nassir’s government.

A source at the County confided to this blog that more officials who worked under Joho are expected to leave the administration.

“Nassir has made it clear that he wants his people around him. That is why they are frustrated. None of those who were in key positions want to remain despite playing a role in Nassir’s campaign,” said the source.

KEMRI scooped “The best display and services in health sector and Pharmaceuticals stand” and also won the second position in other two categories which are  “The Best local manufacturers stand” and “Education and or Research”. The judges applauded research institution for its continuing to lead and play a vital role in human health research and impacting lives not only in Kenya and across the globe.

KEMRI had entered for judgment in four categories and emerged the best in all.

With more than one hundred and twenty-five exhibitors participating in this year’s Mombasa ASK show whose theme is Promoting innovation and technology in Agriculture and trade, KEMRI’s   contribution continued to attract members of the public, dignitaries and students.

Among the issues highlighted at the KEMRI stand are new research findings and new products that KEMRI is innovating especially after the COVID 19 pandemic, and lessons learnt.

The performance was warmly received by KEMRI’s Acting Director General Prof. Sam Kariuki through his representative Director of Corporate Services, Anthony Wachira, who congratulated the team for putting up splendid performance and acknowledged the contributions from the KEMRI Board of Directors, the KEMRI Wellcome Trust, and all the staff for making the week-long event successful.

Speaking after receiving the The Best Display and Services in Health sector and Pharmaceuticals award from Deputy  Rigathi Gachagua , Dr sophie Uyoga a scienstist at KEMRI  said she was delighted that the organization had achieved a lot in human health research and the award is the acknowledgement of a job well done and hard work that  the organization has invested in .

The show which has made a comeback after a two years break due to Covid 19 was officially opened by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday said essential operations have been returned to the port of Mombasa in line with a campaign promise by the Kenya Kwanza administration.

President William Ruto had promised that if elected, port operations previously moved inland to Naivasha would be taken back to Mombasa. Following this pledge, The President issued an order to enforce this pledge on the first day in office in September.

While opening the 2022 Mombasa International Show on Thursday, the Deputy President said they had kept their word and the port as well as the sea side city were slowly returning to their strength.

“The President issued the order on the first day in office and I confirm the operations are now back in Mombasa,” Gachagua said.

He said the Kenya Kwanza administration will always protect the stature of the port saying it was a national resource that not only benefits the coastal region but the whole nation.

Since the operations including the critical clearing and forwarding were taken to Naivasha, local leaders had been urging the previous administration to reverse the initial decisions that took operations out of Mombasa.

Deputy President Gachagua, who revealed he would be back to the coast soon to tour the port, said their administration will always stand firm in defence of the rights of all citizens including those living in the coastal region.

“The port belongs to all Kenyans not some few individuals. We thank the Kenya Ports of Authority Board of Directors for standing against attempts to fully transfer the operations,” the DP said.

He said Ruto’s Government was keen on working with the residents and that a number of senior positions including those of Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaires and key Parliamentary positions had been given to leaders from the region.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir also confirmed clearing and forwarding activities were back to the coastal city.

“I had a meeting with port officials on Wednesday and I can confirm that indeed port operations are back to our city. We are grateful to the Government for ensuring this happened,” he said.

The Mombasa International Show, organized by the Agricultural Society of Kenya, was held at Mkomani Showground in Nyali. It was making a return after a three-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year’s theme for the show which ends on Sunday is “Promoting Innovation and Technology in Agriculture and Trade”.

The Deputy President also encouraged coastal residents to take advantage of the Government plan to boost aquaculture, a sector he said remained largely untapped.

He said the new State Department for the Blue Economy and Fisheries will drive the development of the sector which supports over 2 million people.

“Aquaculture alone has a potential area of 1.4 million hectares suitable for fish farming and is capable of producing over 750,000 Metric Tonnes valued at KES 250 billion.

Despite this enormous potential, only 2,105.1 Hectares of land is under aquaculture,” he said.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi, counterparts Salim Mvurya (Mining) and Aisha Jumwa (Public Service and Gender) were present.
