Shipeta replaces Auma at Haki Africa

Vocal political human rights crusader Shipeta Mathias has joined Haki Africa as a rapid response officer, a position that was left vacant after Francis Auma moved to Muhuri few months ago.

The position is the heart of the organisation and this appointment is a clear indication of the organisation having faith in youth leadership and new breed of human rights crusaders.

Before the appointment, Shipeta was the chief of staff in the office of former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar. He was also a student leader at Kenyatta university.

He vied for the Jomvu parliamentary seat in the last general elections but lost to Badi Twalib.

Speaking to Ommy Dallah Shipeta confirmed his appointment stating " Yes, it's true. I applied for the position , was called for the interview and I passed".

"Currently as we are speaking am on my first assignment in Malindi" he added.

 

 

Award winning Kenyan- Danish production 'Subira' is set to premiere this Friday at the Nyali cinemax Mombasa.

Fans will have an opportunity to interact and take photos with the cast at the red carpet beginning 8pm before the film starts showing at 8:45 pm  according to a programme from the organisers.

some of the cast include Brenda Wairimu who stars as subira, Tirath Padam , Nice Githinji, and Melvin Alusa.

Subira which translates to patience in english is about a free-spirited young girl in Lamu who struggles to live out her unique dream of swimming , against local customs and an arranged upper-class marriage.. But does she have the courage to take her dream on, against all odds?.

According to the Director of the film Sippy Chadha, Subira’s story comes from a place of deep personal experience.

The film scooped 5 awards at the 2018 Kalasha film awards including Best feature film(Ravneet Sippy Chadha and Vibeke Muasya), Best Director(Ravneet Sippy Chadha), Best lighting technician (Saul Ogada), Best lead actress in a film( Brenda Wairimu) and Best editing (Roselidah Taabu & Terry Kelly).

The film was first screened as a short film in 2008 and did well  Europe. It was also screened in Brussels as part of an African film festival.

Music acts and producers drawn from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Nigeria and other countries across Sub-Saharan Africa will set your mood right come next year, Feb 2019 when the show hits TV screens across the continent.

Once again, lovers of the show will experience new and exciting music fusions; from covers to throwbacks and original compositions. 

As “Vimbada” Kenyan hitmaker Moji Short Baba will be making his Coke Studio Africa debut alongside Naiboi, currently riding high on his smash hit single “2 In 1’’ Kenyan hip-hop heavyweight Khaligraph Jones, recently crowned Best rapper in Africa at 2018 AFRIMMA awards will be making a return to the show for the second time.

From Tanzania, BET award-winner Rayvanny and top bongo balladist Nandy will grace the show for the second time.

Some exciting new comers on the show from Tanzania include Harmonize of the “Kwangaru’’ hit fame and  celebrated bongo R&B sensation Juma Jux  and Mdee Music signee Mimi Mars.

Uganda will be represented by top award-winning diva, Sheebah, returning on the show for her second time. She will be joined by popular Ugandan music acts such as Fik Fameica and King Saha.

A roaster of first timers on the show from Ethiopia includes celebrated songstress Mahlet, to seasoned crooners Bisrat, Abush Zekele, Yared Negu and Rophnan Nuri.

Radio Rahma's reporter and sports presenter Luqman Mahmoud is set to join Bahari fm as a sports presenter. 

According to a source, Luqman will be replacing veteran sports presenter and reporter Mkalla Mwambodze who has since shifted to mother station Radio Citizen.

Luqman who is mostly referred to as 'Captain Lolo'  by his fans will be hosting kutubuti which runs every Monday to Friday from 9am to 10am.

The source also revealed that Luqman will be leaving Radio Rahma next week.

"This is his last week , he will be heading to Bahari fm next week". Said the source.

 

 

Tanzanian female singer Vanessa Mdee has just dropped her latest song form the album Monday albums.

The song is titled Bambino' and she featured Nigerian artist Reekado Banks.

1...What was your first phone?

My first phone was Q7. I was so fascinated in having a phone with a good camera although i was not on social media by then.

2...Which is your favourite book and  movie?

My favourite  book, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne,the book is so inspiring and everyone should get it actually. 

Honestly i don’t have a favourite  movie but I enjoy watching dramatic genre kinda movies or series



3....Which kind of music do u like?

Oh my, the list is endless. I love music, technically, I can listen to any kind of music so long as its good. But I love hous and soft rock.

4.....Who is your  favourite local and international artist

local  artist, sauti Sol, those guys have worked so hard as a group and they really inspire me a lot. That’s where “teamwork” applied.

International artist I think I don’t have a specific favourite artist, so long as an artist is nicely composed and had good music.

5.......What part of your job/ blogging do you like the most/ find interesting?

Blogging....mmmhhhh......i enjoy putting different outfits together to come up with a good look. Photoshoots,writing blog posts and interacting with my followers. When it comes to photoshoots, I enjoy exploring new venues and working with different photographers

6.....What inspired you to get into blogging?

 I remember I used to write very long posts accompanied  by lots of pictures. I did not know about blogging but i knew I wanted a website full of my pictures. Lol

So my friends supported, and I got a good web developer, photographer and designers

7...How do you balance studies and blogging?

It’s easy, I do my shoots on weekends and write blog posts in the evening after school.

I share on social media anytime I am free as well as replying to mails and interacting with my followers.

8.....What does it take to be a fashion blogger?

Just understand your body type and know what outfits look good on you.

Get good designers  or stylists.

A good make up artist, photographer  and a web developer.

With the right team you will be good to go.

9....What has been your fear since childhood?

Mass water phobia, I reside in coast Kenya but honestly I can’t swim. I also think I have no interest in learning how to swim but I enjoy watching water sports

10....What would be your advice to the youths?

Be yourself and stay focused, dreams are valid.

The fact that I get to meet new people almost every day. Interacting with Captains and their crew from vast cultures is one thing I find quite interesting. I get to learn so much and it broadens my perception towards so many things.


6.....What inspired you to get into your job?
 
I wanted to do something different, something out of the ordinary and studying navigation has got to be one of the most exciting and intriguing courses. 


 
 
7....If you were a politician, what would you change in our society?


I would really focus on education, as Nelson Mandela put it education is the most powerful weapon to change the world. So I'd key in more effort in infrastructure i.e school (classrooms, libraries e.t.c ) reason being yes free education is provided but do we have the appropriate infrastructure to accommodate these kids who are craving knowledge. Some schools are so poorly constructed such that if it rains, they can't go to school. 

 
8......If you were to change your career which one would you go for?
 
I think I'd be a fashion designer. 
 
I guess that's why I run my fashion blog AMOR
