Standard Media Group Editor in chief Ochieng Rapuro who was poached from Nation in July this year has changed his tactics to cripple Nation Media Group after his bid to poach top editors failed.
According to a source, Mr Rapuro's plan to recruit Bernard Mwinzi and Washington Gikunju among other Nation cream was thwarted after NMG awarded those targeted with lucrative positions in an announcement made by Mutuma Mathiu on Friday evening.
In his quick move, Mr Rapuro who is conversant with how NMG works has turned to crippling county bureuas in a bid to frustrate editors at NMG by poaching top journalists in Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret and other counties as he introduces county editions at std group.
Already talks are on with rumors going round he plans to restructure Std group by sacking and recruiting his force.
In the new changes at NMG, Churchill Otieno who has been Managing Editor Online has been given the additional docket of New Content, Bernard Mwinzi has been elevated to Managing Editor Weekend Editions and in charge of the Health Desk.
Washington Gikunju, who was an assistant editor for Business Daily is now the Managing Editor of The East African newspaper and Head of Africa and International Desks.
Jackson Mutinda is the new Assistant Editor Daily Nation and also Head of Production while George Omondi is now the section editor, economy and politics, Business Daily. Sarah Bakata elevated to assiatant editor, The East African
According to a memo seen by Ommydalla.co.ke from the NMG Editorial Director Mutuma Mathiu the new changes are aimed at "strengthening products, accelerate digital transformation and fill existing vacancies".
The memo also directs that the online and new content special desks to report to the Group Editorial Director.
The new changes take effect on September 1 2019.
