Kenya Ports Authority [KPA] General Manager, Board and Legal Services, Addraya Eda Dena is among the 41 judges rejected by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The names of the judges had been nominated by the judicial service commission and forwarded to the President for appointment..
On Tuesday the president told the high court that he did not gazette the new judges because some of them had integrity issues and it would be irresponsible of him to appoint tainted individuals to the positions that have security of tenure.
It has been four months since JSC nominated 41 individuals for appointment as judges of Appeal, Lands and Employment courts.
The move comes barely a week after the Head of State said the judges and magistrates, who faithfully and expeditiously discharge their Oath of Office without cowering in the face of the power and ill-gotten wealth of corruption suspects are heroes.
President Kenyatta had made the remarks during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Mama Ngina Water Front park in Mombasa County.
Ms Dena is unlucky compared to her predecessor Judge George Matatia Abaleka Dulu who was appointed a judge from KPA.
She joined Kenya Ports Authority in July 2012 as the Head of Contracts and Conveyancing. In this capacity, she was the principal assistant to the Head of the Division in the management of legal affairs of the Authority before assuming her current role in February 2016.
Ms. Dena is a trained lawyer by profession having attained a Bachelor of Law (Hons) Degree from the University of Nairobi (UON) and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law which led to her admission to the bar on 7th March 1996.
