Deputy President William Ruto and his wife Rachel Ruto have received their Covid-19 vaccine.
The two received the vaccine at their official residence in Karen Nairobi.
Ruto called on Kenyans to participate in the vaccination exercise to fight the COvid-19 pandemic.
"COVID-19 vaccines are our safe and effective tools in saving lives and managing the disease. I encourage Kenyans to participate in this exercise to protect ourselves against the pandemic and check its transmission." said Ruto.
This comes just days after President Uhuru Kenyatta led other top government officials in receiving the vaccine at state house. Among those who were vaccinated was First Lady Margaret Kenyatta. Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe were also vaccinated.
Earlier, Uhuru ordered the Cabinet and all senior staff in the Executive to lead in getting the Covid-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile the country has reported 1,530 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours from a sample size of 8,010.
According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe from the new cases, 1,468 are Kenyans while 62 are foreigners. 82 are males and 688 are females. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 132,646.
The country’s positivity rate stands at 19. 1 per cent with total recoveries now standing at 92,290.
