Key former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho allies have left the county government since the current governor Abdulswamad Nassit took office
They include Joho’s Chief of Staff Joab Tumbo who was also acting as the County Secretary, Environment Chief Officer Ilhan Abass, and Finance Chief Officer Asha Abdi.
Ilhan who was also the acting chief officer for Public Service and Devolution was the first to resign one month ago, she was followed by Joab who tendered his resignation two weeks ago, and Asha who sent his resignation letter on Thursday last week in what is believed to be a protest against the now Nassir led government.
Asha was also the acting chief officer for Trade, Tourism, and Investment.
According to sources, the chief officers were expected to remain around until December as per the agreement with the former regime.
Sources at the county revealed that the three Joho’s allies who played a strategic role in his government felt unwelcome by Nassir’s government.
A source at the County confided to this blog that more officials who worked under Joho are expected to leave the administration.
“Nassir has made it clear that he wants his people around him. That is why they are frustrated. None of those who were in key positions want to remain despite playing a role in Nassir’s campaign,” said the source.
