Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Nassir has ordered for immediate arrested of three property owners who he said are illegally constructing buildings without licences.
Speaking shortly after receiving a interim report from the Mombasa county building taskforce, Nassir said the three individuals have defied stop orders issued to them by authorities and have continued to built illegally.
He mentioned the notorious areas as Majengo, Old Town and Likoni where orders were given by authorities but owners went on and continued to build.

"We are seeking the immediate arrest of the three owners of the buildings that we had issued a stop order, and if we still establish that that situation can't be salvaged, then they should be demolished, we can't wait until a disaster happens then we pretend to act," said Nassir.
This is from an interim county taskforce report that established other 97 of the buildings started without getting approval from the county government.
The county building taskforce was established through a Mombasa gazette notice on 29 September to audit current status of buildings in Mombasa.
The report established that the said 3 other properties had stop order but continued to build despite the poor quality of work. It also revealed that about 62 properties whose have defied designs and but up extra storeys.
Nassir said all the buildings under construction should stop until a fresh approval is done by relevant authorities within an ultimatum of seven days.
"People are building on road access areas, we want to put strict measures to ensure that anyone putting up a building adhere to construction guidelines provided for in the law," said Nassir.
