According to Media council of Kenya (MCK) Coast region coordinator Maureen Mudi the event will be held for the first time in Mombasa owing to the immense growth of the radio sector.
"We are hosting the world radio day on February 13 and will bring together about 100 participants drawn from different sectors," said Mudi.
Some of the guests invited includes State Department of Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary Edward Kisiangani , officials from Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) among others.
"It's important because it recognizes the role Radio has in the country, considering Mombasa has witnessed immense radio growth, so we will be looking at different areas to improve on service delivery," she added.
The event will be preceded by a training for media practitioners including station managers to cement relations and also on matters related to safety and protection of journalists.
The meeting will also check on some of the needs that the sector requires including safety of journalists and protection in line of their work.
Mombasa has about 15 radio stations currently broadcasting from the region.
Mudi said sustainability of the media industry is key especially at a time when digital media is fast growing bringing about competition.
"Some of the ways we can sustain the media is by looking at the kind of context that we channel to our viewers, listeners and readers, one of them is that we need to update our equipements inline with emerging global trends," said Mudi.
