Wiper Party Will Not Participate In The Kibra By Election, Says Makwere

Wiper Democratic Movement party won’t field a candidate to vie for the Kibra Parliamentary by-election which will be held on November 7.

Party national chairman Ali Chirau Mwakwere said the decision was reached during the party's national executive committee (NEC) meeting held over the weekend.

He said the decision not to field a candidate was unanimously agreed upon during the meeting chaired by party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

"It was a consultative meeting where the party made the final decision not to field a candidate for the vacant Kibra parliamentary seat," Mwakwere said.

Mwakwere spoke of the party's stand ahead of the mini polls which follows the death of Kibra MP Ken Okoth on July 26.

The Wiper chairman said the party will  give its stand on which candidate it will rally behind to succeed  Ken Okoth once they have cleared with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

He said the party will convene another NEC meeting to chart the way forward upon completion of the other parties' nomination process.

"We will only support a candidate from a political party with a manifesto and philosophy that would be aligned to the interests of the Kibra constituents," he pointed out.
