A high court in Mombasa has sentenced Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi to four years in prison or a fine of Sh1 million after he was found guilty of assaulting two police officers.
The incident occurred last year during the ODM party nominations.
According to Chief Magistrate Evans Makori on Thursday there is enough evidence that the Mp together with his supporters assaulted the two police officers namely constables Dennis Nambisia and Agapio Ndwiga.
Mwiniyi was accused together with others not before the court of destroying ODM ballot boxes at Mwidani Social Hall, Bomu Primary and Al-Inshadi Nursery School polling stations on April 22.
The Mp has however vowed to appeal the ruling arguing it (ruling) is due to his political stand.
