Rachel Muthoga of MTG Kilifi scoops the International Olympic Committee for Women in sports award Featured

Ms. Rachel Muthoga, Moving The Goalposts’ board member has won the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for Women in Sports award for Africa during the Awards Ceremony at the Olympism in Action Forum, that took place in Buenos Aires on 5thand 6thOctober, 2018.

Ms. Rachel was among the six role models and advocates recognized by IOC for advancing women in and through sport.

She stood out to be the only winner from Africa working with a Sports for development organization committed to inspiring and building confidence and self-esteem in girls and young women through football.

Introduced in 2000, the IOC Women and Sport Awards are given to women, men or organizations who have made remarkable contributions to the development, encouragement and reinforcement of women through sport.

One World Trophy and five Continental Trophies are awarded every year.

Moving The Goalposts (MTG)is a community-based organization founded in 2002 and operating in Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River and Mombasa counties within coastal region.

MTG uses football to empower girls and young women by organizing and running league activities and peer education programs on reproductive health, women’s rights and economic empowerment.

 MTG is the Runners-up FIFA Diversity Award 2017,winner of Global Goals Word Cup 2017,  winner of the 2016 Laureus Sport for Good Award, 2015 Beyond Sport UNICEF Award, 2015 Safeguarding Children in SportAward and the YEF/Africa/International Labour Organization Youth Enterprise Facility Award 2015.
